In August 1975, the peaceful town of Marple, Pennsylvania, was suddenly thrown into panic. More than 200 police officers, firefighters, and volunteers spread across the area searching for an eight-year-old girl who had mysteriously vanished.

Then, on October 14, 1975, a passerby discovered human remains in Ridley Creek State Park, approximately seven miles from Gretchen's home.
The remains belonged to Gretchen Harrington.
Investigators determined that her skull had been fractured. Evidence was collected from the scene, but despite extensive efforts, detectives could not identify the killer.

He then drove her to a secluded area outside town.
